Third Age Summerhill Looking After Older People During Corona Crisis

Posted on 13th March 2020

In response to advice from the HSE, Third Age, Summerhill, Co Meath is postponing its range of daily activities and services to local members – but also finding a way to offer something extra to those in need.

While it is not recommended that the organisation provide its Friday shopping trips to members, Third Age is going the extra mile – literally – for those who are dependent on this service. ‘A minority of our members won’t be able to get to the shops on their own, so for them, we are acting as a middleman. They can phone in their grocery orders to us, we have come to a credit arrangement with local supermarkets, who will fill the order, and we will arrange for its delivery’ says Aine Brady, Third Age, CEO.

Third Age will stay open for phone contact during normal business hours, providing companionship, information, and advice for local members.  In addition SeniorLine, Third Age’s national phone service will be open every day from 10am to 10pm with trained volunteers also offering support to old people all over the country who may be confined to home.
